Here it is – The fifth episode of AmiRadio is on the air. This one resulted in a longer playing time, exceeding the regular one-hour episodes I’m sharing here. As we like to say in Israel – I was in my schwung (apparently “momentum” in German…) and let my spirit move with the records. The mixtape turned out to be mellower, sort of contemplative in its vibe.

עכשיו אני חוזר אל השורשים – משתמש בפורמט המוסיקאלי האהוב עליי, תוך כדי זרימה של מיקס אותנטי.
יותר מזה – אני השתמשתי באחד מטייפי הסלילים שלי כדי לתעד את מיקס התקליטים, וככה השגתי שכבה נוספת של “רוויה” אנלוגית בשימוש מהירות הקלטה איטית: ככה, תדרים גבוהים ומבריקים מתעמעמים, באופן רנדומלי שכל כך טיפוסי לסוג של פורמט הטייפ הזה, במיוחד כשאני משתמש בסלילים ישנים משנות ה-60’…
מעכשיו יש לי את המקום ואת הדחף לרקום מארגים מוסיקאליים הישר מספריית התקליטים שלי. קדימה, תיכנסו:
After prolonged hiatus, I’m here again!
This time I finally managed to arrange what I planned a long time ago – a modest setup for vinyl mixing!
Until now all the mixtapes I’ve created and posted here were made digitally on my PC of sorts.
Now I’m coming back to the roots – using my favorite musical format for an authentic mixing flow.
More than this – I used one of my reel-to-reel recorders to document my vinyl mixings, achieving another layer of analog saturation by recording on low-speed: that way crispy higher frequencies are somewhat muffled, in the typical random way, especially when using old tape media.
I didn’t clean the records I’ve used and picked, almost randomly for the following mix so some surface noise, clicks and pops are present, and I like it!
Now I have the place and the urge to weave additional musical tapestries right out of my vinyl records collection.

כבר כמה זמן אני חוכך במוחי איזה נגיס – מיקסטייפ בא לי להכין, לצערי מי שעוקב אחרי הבלוג הזה שם לב להעדרותי הארוכה – זאת קרתה רק מסיבות טובות – עבודה ויצירה אינטנסיבית. בחודש האחרון אני עסוק מאוד בהקלטת אלבומה החדש של קרן הכט בתור מעבד ומפיק מוסיקאלי (היה לי הכבוד גם להלחין שם כמה שירים). בסשן האחרון שהיה לנו הקלטנו סקציית מיתרים, שבה השתתפו שי-רן ינון, ויולנית, כנרת, ומלחינה מוכשרת שאותה הכרתי בזכות מורפלקסיס ו-WAG; אריאב בוכריס, כנר וירטואוז; אודליה בר-יהודה, אדרכלית מצליחה וויולנית שאני והיא מכירים עוד מבית הספר ועודד אוני עו”ד ביום וכנר בלילה 😉 כל ההתעסקות הזאת עם התוים והטראנספוזיציות והתאמת הסולמות לנגנים (במקביל אני כתבתי גם תפקידים לסקציית נשיפה שאותה אני אקליט בשבוע הבא) הזכירה לי את האהבה הגדולה שלי למוסיקה סימפונית וקלאסית בכלל, ועל כן ראיתי לנכון לשחרר את הנגיס הבא עלינו לטובה – Class. כפי שתוכלו להבחין בחרתי מספר יצירות שמייצגות בצורה ממצה את העדפותיי האישיות בתחום המוסיקאלי הזה: אני בעיקר אוהב את תקופת הבארוק והרנסאנס שהתאפיינה בהרבה מוטיבים מודאליים שנעלמו בהדרגה עם הכניסה לתקופה הקלאסית (שאליה באופן טבעי אני מתחבר פחות), וכמובן סוף תקופת המוזיקה הרומנטית וממנה המוזיקה המודרנית כפי שמגדירים אותה עד היום – אלו הם הגוונים שצובעים את הקטעים המוגשים לכם בנגיס הזה. בחרתי גם ביצועים אותנטיים כמו של רחמנינוב ושל רובינשטיין כמו גם מלחינים פחות מוכרים כגון איבר Ibert וקבלבסקי – שיצא לי לנגן יצירה שלו בעצמי (לא את זו שמוגשת בנגיס), ככה על קצה המזלג, כמובן שבשבילי יש טעם לעוד – אבל יש כבר עוד כמה רעיונות אחרים לנגיסים מרעננים. אני אנצל את ההזדמנות להזמין אתכם למופע שהוא סשן מרגש בפני עצמו של הרוחות ב-3 לינואר, ב”אזור”, תל-אביב. קבלו אותו:

For a while, I’m trying to make up my mind which kind of nugget I want to create, unfortunately, if you follow this blog you could feel my absence for a long time, and I can say it was only for good reasons – intensive work and creation. Last month I was busy with the recording of the new album of Keren Hecht as an arranger and music producer (I had the honor to compose some of the songs too). Last recording session we recorded a string section that includes the well-talented viola player Shir-Ran Yinon, the virtuoso violinist Ariav Buchris, Odelia Bar-Yehuda – successful architect and viola player that she and I know each other from elementary school, and Oded Uni which is a day working lawyer and a violinist in the night 😉
All this dealing with notes and transpositions and fitting the right scales to the players (I also wrote parts for a brass section that I’ll record next week) reminded me my big love for symphonic and classical music in general. Then I decided it would be the right moment to release this nugget – ‘Class.’ As you can see, I picked some different pieces that resemble my personal taste on this musical domain: I like mainly the Baroque and Renaissance eras that characterized with a lot of Modal motives that gradually disappeared through the Classic period (Which I’m less connected to). And then, of course, the end of the Romantic era and from there to the Modern which some define it that way until today – these are the colors that paint these presented tracks. I also picked some authentic performances like Rachmaninoff’s and Rubinstein’s, also some less known composers like Ibert and Kabalevsky (that I used to play one of his pieces). This is the tip of the iceberg, and I could fill hours of this musical domain, but I have some other ideas for other refreshing nuggets.
